Pallets per truck and container

Choose the trailer or container, the pallet and its weight; see how many vehicles you need and whether floor space or weight is the limit.

How it is calculated

Pallets per vehicle = floor positions on one tier × tiers. With a weight per pallet, the number is capped so that the typical payload is not exceeded.

Vehicles needed = pallets ÷ pallets per vehicle, rounded up.

Assumptions

  • Floor positions are typical: 13.6 m trailer 33 EUR / 26 UK, 20′ container 11 EUR / 10 UK, 40′ and 40′ high cube 24 EUR / 21 UK.
  • Payloads are typical (trailer 24,000 kg, 20′ 28,000 kg, 40′ 26,600 kg, 40′ HC 26,500 kg). On the road each country’s gross weight and axle limits apply and can be lower, especially for a container on a chassis.

Questions

How many pallets fit on a 13.6 m trailer?

33 EUR pallets or 26 UK pallets on the floor; up to twice that if the goods can be double-stacked and the weight allows.

How many pallets fit in a 40 ft container?

Usually 23–24 EUR or 20–21 UK pallets on one tier, depending on how they are turned.

Why does the weight limit matter?

Heavy goods reach the payload before the floor is full: 33 pallets of 900 kg weigh 29.7 t, more than a trailer may carry, so the calculator caps the count.
